My name is Camille, I’m 20 years old, and I’m originally from Lyon, France. I came to Malaga through the Erasmus+ programme to improve my Spanish, but what I found was much more than just a language course.
Malaga quickly became a place where learning felt natural. The city’s atmosphere, the Mediterranean lifestyle, and the warmth of the people made it easy to feel comfortable and motivated from the very beginning.
Learning Spanish beyond the classroom
The Spanish classes were engaging and very practical. From day one, we were encouraged to speak and use the language in real-life situations. The classes were international, but Spanish was always the main language, which really helped build confidence and make fast progress.
What made the experience even better were the social activities organised by the school, which allowed us to practise Spanish in a relaxed and enjoyable way:
- Language exchange meet-ups with local students
- Spanish cooking workshops, including traditional Andalusian dishes
- Tapas evenings in neighbourhoods like Soho and El Palo
- Weekend trips and cultural visits around Andalusia
- International and social events by the sea
These activities made it easy to meet people, practise Spanish every day, and feel part of the local community.
Why Malaga is perfect for Erasmus+ students
Malaga is an ideal city for Erasmus+ students. It offers the perfect combination of history, culture, and beach life, with a relaxed pace and more affordable living costs compared to larger Spanish cities.
Some of my favourite places in Malaga were:
- The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, with incredible views over the city
- Muelle Uno and the port area, perfect for walks and sunsets
- La Malagueta Beach, right next to the city centre
- The historic old town, full of lively squares and traditional streets
- Atarazanas Market, a great place to experience local food and daily life
Living in Malaga made it easy to combine studying, social life, and cultural discovery, all while enjoying the Mediterranean climate.
More than a Spanish course
Spanisch studieren in Malaga through Erasmus+ was not just about language learning. It helped me become more confident, independent, and open to new cultures.
I left Malaga with a strong improvement in my Spanish, meaningful friendships, and memories that will stay with me for a lifetime. For anyone considering studying Spanish in Spain, Malaga is a choice I would highly recommend.
Get involved, speak Spanish as much as possible, and take advantage of everything the city offers. Erasmus+ in Malaga is about learning, but also about fully experiencing life in southern Spain.
